About the Role

The Global Response Operations (GRO) team at Meta serves as the critical first line of defense safeguarding platform integrity, user safety, regulatory compliance, and advertiser interests. This team addresses high-priority escalations that need rapid, precise, and coordinated responses, collaborating across departments to resolve complex, sensitive cases on all Meta platforms and products. As Meta advances, routine tasks are increasingly delegated to AI, allowing human expertise to focus on challenging judgments and system improvements.

As an Oversight Operations Investigator, you will lead investigations on Meta's highest-stakes escalations where AI assistance ends and expert human insight commands the resolution. You will engage with diverse issue types including civic matters, AI product malfunctions, advertiser violations, and regulatory risks, operating across all Meta surfaces. The role also involves developing and refining AI-human collaborative workflows to optimize operations and deliver consistent improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage priority escalations from initial analysis through investigation, coordination, and resolution while meeting service level agreements and minimizing reputational and business risks.
  • Conduct detailed investigations by connecting information across multiple platforms and stakeholders, particularly for complex case types such as AI hallucinations, deepfakes, and cross-platform integrity issues, documenting findings to avoid recurrence.
  • Collaborate extensively with Policy, Legal, Engineering, Sales, Communications, Leadership, and external partners to align on case response strategies and execute clear, accountable actions.
  • Produce clear, executive-level communications leveraging AI tools to ensure timely, actionable situational awareness.
  • Exercise critical judgment in unprecedented, high-pressure cases, setting precedents for operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in global on-call rotations, maintaining 24/7 responsiveness across time zones to uphold decision consistency and quality.
  • Contribute to maintaining and improving workflow quality in human-AI interactions, identifying when human intervention is necessary.
  • Translate expert domain knowledge into explicit logic, rules, and frameworks that AI systems can implement.
  • Lead or participate in operational improvement teams (pods/sprints), driving metrics-based enhancements to efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Design and iterate AI-supported workflows, including prompts, decision trees, and automations, to reduce manual steps and case handling times.
  • Mentor peers on judgment, AI tool usage, and escalation calibration to elevate team capabilities.
  • Conduct quality assessments of cases and AI outputs, identifying error trends and implementing corrective measures.
  • Critically review AI-generated assessments and refine models to improve accuracy over time.
  • Monitor shifts in regulatory, policy, or operational contexts, updating automation and operational logic as needed.
  • Provide structured feedback on AI developments, advising on operational impacts and improvements.
  • Create and maintain detailed AI operation documentation including escalation logic, runbooks, prompts, and evaluation criteria.
  • Test and validate new AI functionalities prior to deployment to guarantee reliability.
  • Develop AI capabilities that complement and verify human operations, integrating human-in-the-loop quality controls.
  • Stay informed on evolving platform threats, policies, and legal frameworks to support rapid, informed decision-making.
  • Identify emerging operational patterns, systemic challenges, and root causes that inform strategic initiatives.
  • Track workflow health to detect and address declining system performance proactively.
  • Document investigative approaches and resolution methods for emerging case types to build scalable institutional knowledge.
  • Provide insights on demand trends, capability needs, and process inefficiencies influencing future development plans.
  • Lead investigations involving AI product failures including LLM outputs, AI agents, and AI-generated content.
  • Develop expertise in AI failure modes, recognizing how and why AI systems may produce harmful, inaccurate, or policy-violating outcomes.
  • Collaborate on AI-focused escalation protocols and intervention processes, shaping company responses to AI-related incidents.
  • Participate in AI red-teaming and stress test exercises to better understand failure cases and enhance safety measures.
  • Note on Content: This role involves exposure to potentially disturbing content such as graphic violence, self-harm, hate speech, abuse, and sexually explicit material. Meta provides resources to support employees handling sensitive materials.
  • On-Call Requirements: The position requires scheduled weekend and holiday on-call duties plus occasional unscheduled crisis responses.
  • Work Environment: The job demands managing frequent interruptions by prioritizing time-sensitive escalations alongside improvement initiatives, with escalations taking precedence.
  • AI Integration: The team utilizes AI tools daily; employees are expected to extend AI capabilities and recognize when human oversight is necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in escalation management, trust and safety, crisis response, investigations, regulatory compliance, policy, or a related operations field.
  • Proven ability to handle high-pressure, urgent situations independently with sound decision-making.
  • Daily active usage of AI tools including prompt engineering, AI-assisted investigations, and workflow automation, with capacity to critically assess and override AI decisions.
  • Strong analytical capabilities to integrate extensive qualitative and quantitative data into practical insights.
  • Excellent written communication skills, able to create executive briefings, case summaries, and stakeholder communications, leveraging AI where suitable.
  • Experience building strong cross-functional partnerships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Track record of identifying process and capability gaps, innovating scalable workflow improvements or tools.
  • Effective collaborator able to align and progress initiatives across multiple teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ongoing development of AI competencies such as prompt/context engineering and agent orchestration.
  • Experience implementing ethical AI practices including risk assessment, bias mitigation, and quality reviews.
  • Demonstrated success integrating AI to revamp workflows resulting in measurable quality or efficiency enhancements.
  • Familiarity with structured AI evaluation methods such as red-teaming, prompt testing, and failure analysis.
  • Background in content integrity, intellectual property, regulatory frameworks, advertiser policies, or civic/political escalations.
  • Knowledge of Meta's products, policies, and enforcement mechanisms.
  • Leadership or mentorship experience leading team accountability and outcomes.
