Order Picker / Loader

Role overview

Samuel, Son & Co. is hiring an Order Picker / Loader in Cambridge, Ontario. This position supports warehouse and shipping operations by handling material movement, stock control, and product preparation while following safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.

Core responsibilities

• Operate lifting equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
• Carry out daily pre-use checks on lifting equipment before starting work.
• Receive incoming material, confirm it against the bill of lading, and attach stock tags.
• Pick and load materials using pick lists and scan product tags as needed.
• Maintain accurate inventory locations for stored material.
• Locate, create, package, and tag ASIS products and finished goods.
• Stage material for upcoming processing steps.
• Move material around the facility as required.
• Protect stored products both inside and outside the building to preserve condition and quality.
• Complete all required reports and records.
• Escalate damaged equipment or non-conforming product to Shipping/Receiving or the Production Supervisor for review and disposition.
• Keep the work area clean and organized.
• Support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with training new team members when needed.
• Perform additional duties assigned by management or the Production Supervisor.

Quality system duties

• Take action to prevent product, process, and quality system non-conformities.
• Identify and document issues affecting product, process, or the quality system.
• Suggest or escalate corrective actions through the proper channels.

Tools, equipment, and materials

This role uses remote cranes and booms when qualified, lift trucks, side loaders, scanners and other computer equipment including D365, as well as wood saws, nail guns, banding tools, tensioners, and magnets. Work may involve ferrous and non-ferrous products, extrusions, and long products.

Working standards

Work is carried out in accordance with Samuel health and safety policies, quality management system procedures, company policies, work orders, travelers, packaging manuals, and SSOPs.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent experience is required. The role calls for strong time management, the ability to work well in a team, clear written and verbal communication, and the drive to work independently with minimal direction when needed.

Compensation and incentive

The base wage for this job is CAD 23.17 per hour. The position is also eligible for a short-term incentive plan, with any award depending on business and individual performance and not guaranteed.
