Job description
Role Overview
The Mau Tangata – Front of House position at Auckland City Mission serves as the welcoming gateway for all visitors, whānau, and community members arriving at HomeGround. As the initial point of contact, this role involves greeting and assisting individuals to ensure they feel respected and safe while navigating available support services. The front of house team collaborates closely with various client-facing services within the Mission, including Apartments Concierge, Calder Centre, Street to Home, withdrawal services, and Haeata. This role offers mentorship and career development opportunities within a supportive work environment at Te Tāpui Atawhai.
Key Responsibilities
- Warmly receive and care for guests, ensuring each visitor to the Auckland City Mission is treated with dignity and kindness.
- Collaborate with multiple departments to provide a safe environment for clients accessing services.
- Deliver appropriate interventions based on mātauranga Māori principles, ranging from brief to comprehensive support.
- Establish and nurture positive, professional relationships with internal teams and external partners.
Required Skills and Experience
- Understanding of Kaupapa Māori principles, including cultural awareness, power dynamics, and connections to the Treaty of Waitangi.
- Experience working with people affected by homelessness, food insecurity, substance addictions, and/or mental and physical health challenges.
- Recognized as a trusted individual exhibiting leadership grounded in tika (correctness), pono (integrity), and aroha (compassion).
- Security experience and holding a current Certificate of Approval (COA) are considered advantages.
- Skills and experience may come from paid roles, voluntary work, or community involvement such as church, marae, iwi, or whānau responsibilities.
