Role overview
This position is for a Mainframe Developer with strong practical experience in IBM z/OS application development and support. The role involves working across batch and online mainframe programs, database interactions, job control, and production issue resolution.
Key responsibilities
- Build and support IBM z/OS mainframe applications with strong hands-on expertise.
- Work confidently with COBOL for batch and/or online processing, including VSAM and file handling.
- Create and maintain JCL, job flows, scheduling steps, restart and recovery logic, and core utilities such as SORT, IDCAMS, and IEBGENER.
- Handle database work in DB2, including SQL, bind/package activities, and basic performance tuning, or work with IMS-DB concepts such as DL/I, PSB, and PCB.
- Develop and support online transaction processing in CICS, including BMS, COMMAREA, channels/containers, and syncpoints, or in IMS-DC.
- Investigate defects and production incidents using dumps, ABEND codes, JES spool/output, and application logs.
- Understand SDLC practices, release and change management, and proper documentation methods; experience in Agile delivery is an added advantage.
- Communicate effectively with business users and technical teams, prepare impact analysis, and contribute to knowledge transfer activities.
