Position Overview
The Logistics Coordinator role involves overseeing domestic and international logistics operations, freight management, purchasing coordination, and supplier collaboration across the organization. This position requires collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, finance, procurement, commercial teams, and external logistics partners to ensure smooth flow of materials and finished goods, regulatory compliance, and meeting customer delivery expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate shipments within the U.S. and internationally across multiple departments.
- Manage partnerships with parcel carriers, freight providers, customs brokers, and freight forwarders.
- Track shipment status, proactively resolve delays, and update internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and verify shipping documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Support import/export operations adhering to regulations.
- Handle inbound and outbound shipments for manufacturing, engineering, and customer fulfillment.
- Oversee daily relations with domestic and international third-party logistics providers (3PL).
- Monitor service quality, inventory accuracy, and fulfillment efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to enhance logistics speed, cost-efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Assist with future warehouse and fulfillment development initiatives as the company grows.
- Facilitate sourcing efforts for operational and manufacturing needs.
- Coordinate vendor purchases and manage purchase orders.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships across various categories.
- Support supplier onboarding and monitor vendor performance.
- Help diversify the supplier base to strengthen supply chain resilience.
- Maintain precise records of logistics, inventory, and shipments.
- Help ensure materials arrive on time for production planning.
- Coordinate packaging needs with manufacturing and engineering teams.
- Assist in inventory transfers between facilities and external partners.
- Participate in ongoing improvements to logistics and supply chain processes.
- Evaluate and obtain freight cost quotes; negotiate where applicable.
- Monitor transportation expenses and seek cost-saving opportunities.
- Support cost analysis for freight, packaging, and suppliers.
- Collaborate with Finance to resolve vendor payment matters.
- Work with Legal and Operations to ensure compliance with contracts and regulations.
- Support customer deliveries and quickly address logistics challenges.
- Engage in operational projects that support growth and acquisitions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in logistics, supply chain, procurement, or operations.
- Experience managing domestic and international freight shipments.
- Knowledge of parcel carriers, less-than-truckload (LTL), full-truckload (FTL), and international freight forwarding.
- Understanding of customs documentation and import/export regulations.
- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills.
- Preferred: Experience in manufacturing or defense sectors, working with 3PL providers, ERP systems like NetSuite, negotiating freight rates, inventory and warehouse management, supplier management best practices, and familiarity with international shipping compliance.
