About the Position
The National Metrology Centre is looking for a motivated and innovative Lead Metrologist to join its Dimensional Laboratory. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner with strong interpersonal skills, tasked with providing expertise and guidance in maintaining and advancing national standards in length and dimensional measurements.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and assure the quality of national measurement standards involving length and dimensional metrics.
- Establish international equivalence of measurement capabilities through active participation in inter-laboratory comparisons.
- Disseminate national standards and measurement technologies by offering calibration services and applied research in metrology to industry stakeholders.
- Provide consultancy, technical training, and proficiency testing programs particularly targeting semiconductor, precision engineering, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
- Develop innovative metrology solutions and capabilities tailored to evolving industry requirements, including programs to enhance internal technical skills.
- Conduct troubleshooting of complex measurement discrepancies and evaluate performance of cutting-edge dimensional instruments.
- Oversee maintenance and qualification of equipment and coordinate technical assessments related to Singapore Lab Accreditation Scheme.
- Mentor junior staff and trainees, conduct internal training sessions, review technical documentation, and resolve complex measurement issues.
- Lead efforts to achieve international recognition for calibration and measurement prowess through peer-reviews, and participate as an expert in reviewing other national metrology institutes.
- Collaborate across national and institutional laboratories and committees to strengthen the country's dimensional metrology capabilities.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in science or engineering disciplines.
- Hands-on experience operating laser interferometers, optical measurement systems, and instruments measuring contours and surface textures.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capability with a self-driven approach to managing projects and effective cross-team communication.
- A deep understanding of dimensional metrology areas including linear, angular, flatness, straightness, roundness, surface roughness, and knowledge of GD&T standards.
- Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written, with capability to independently prepare technical reports, procedural documentation, and official certification.
- Preferred knowledge and experience in optics, laser technology, nanotechnology/nanometrology, and length and dimensional metrology relevant to semiconductor and precision engineering fields.
- Familiarity with instrumentation and statistical data analysis techniques.
- Skills in automation, digital technologies, and experience with technical project management are advantageous.
