Role Overview

We are seeking a permanent part-time Laboratory Assistant (Float) to join our team, providing high-quality patient specimen collection and testing services while contributing to a positive team culture and exceptional patient care experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect quality blood samples and other patient specimens using skilled venipuncture techniques aligned with company values.
• Perform various specimen collections including ECGs, Holter monitor hookups, paternity, urine, drug, and breath alcohol tests.
• Accurately enter patient and test data for Ministry of Health requisitions.
• Prepare specimens and necessary documentation according to SOPs for laboratory transport, following protocols for sample handling.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and support departmental quality metrics and regulatory compliance.
• Provide excellent customer service, demonstrating empathy and care to patients especially during stressful procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

• Completed secondary school plus a Laboratory Assistant training program or Medical Lab Assistance course with phlebotomy specialization.
• Strong phlebotomy skills with the ability to soothe anxious patients.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage priorities and operate independently within deadlines.
• Proficient in English communication, both written and verbal, to clearly instruct patients.
• MLPAO/CSMLS certification is highly recommended.
• Customer-centric mindset focused on patient health and comfort.

Work Details and Benefits

• Permanent part-time position offering a guaranteed minimum of 24 hours per week.
• Work schedule includes day shifts varying between 6:30 am and 5:30 pm from Monday to Saturday.
• Float locations include Guelph, Milton, Acton, Mississauga, and Oakville.
• Hourly pay ranges from $21.00 to $23.25, depending on experience and education.
