Overview
The Town of Natick's Facilities Department is recruiting a reliable, motivated Junior Custodian II/Floater to join its custodial team. This full-time, nighttime role entails performing regular and emergency cleaning, assisting with facility events, and conducting light maintenance duties across various assigned locations. The position requires flexibility to cover multiple facilities and may include guiding Junior Custodian I staff and temporary personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute custodial and building maintenance duties including routine and emergency cleaning, event support, and minor repairs.
- Conduct cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, waxing, carpet and window cleaning, dusting, polishing, and disposal of trash, recycling, and compostable waste.
- Perform preventative and light maintenance on equipment and building systems such as lubrication, filter and light bulb replacement, and minor fixes.
- Operate Building Management Systems, handle work order systems, and utilize tools like Google Workspace as necessary.
- Maintain knowledge of building systems including boiler operation and exterior grounds upkeep like mowing, clearing roof drains, and snow/ice removal.
- Assist with moving and setting up furniture, machinery, and equipment.
- Cover shifts and responsibilities of other custodians as needed and potentially provide leadership to less experienced custodial staff and temporary employees.
- Respond promptly to emergencies related to custodial or building operations and complete related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Preferred minimum of two years’ experience in custodial or maintenance roles.
- Must hold a valid Class D driver’s license.
- Completion of required fingerprinting and state and federal background checks (CORI) is mandatory.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with building users and address their concerns tactfully.
- In-depth knowledge of commercial cleaning equipment, materials, and procedures.
- Ability to safely operate common power cleaning machinery and use personal protective equipment (PPE) following safety protocols.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively while adapting to different facilities’ requirements.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Able to work in typical building environments involving prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, stooping, and climbing up to four flights of stairs.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
- Competent to climb and work safely on ladders.
- Perform duties indoors and outdoors, tolerating varying weather conditions throughout seasons.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting hourly wage is $23.25 with a pay range up to $28.43 per hour based on union step increases.
- The role is full-time, non-exempt, and includes a competitive benefits package.

Additional Information
Work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The position reports to a Principal or designated lead, Senior Custodian, or Custodial Supervisor and may have supervisory responsibilities over Junior Custodian I staff and temporary or part-time workers.
