About the Role

This position is for an IoT Engineer who can bridge hardware and software, turning concepts into complete working products. The role sits at the meeting point of mechanical design, embedded firmware, and system-level integration, so the ideal person is comfortable moving between CAD models, prototype builds, and code.

We are open to candidates whose strength comes from either side of the divide: a mechanical engineer who has developed a strong interest in embedded programming, or a firmware engineer who enjoys hands-on physical prototyping and CAD-driven design. In this role, you will help shape the enclosure and moving parts, while also building the firmware that controls and connects the device.

What You Will Do

Your work will span mechanical engineering, firmware/software development, and system integration/testing.

Mechanical Engineering

  • Create, refine, and prototype enclosures, assemblies, mechanisms, and structural parts using 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, CREO, or similar software.
  • Choose suitable materials, fabrication methods, and fastening approaches, including 3D printing, injection molding, and CNC machining.
  • Run analyses related to heat, mechanical stress, and ingress protection to support durability and reliability of the hardware.
  • Evaluate servo systems and robotic mechanisms.

Firmware and Software Engineering

  • Build, troubleshoot, and maintain embedded code for ARM-based processors, peripheral ASICs, and PHY components.
  • Develop low-level drivers for sensors, actuators, and power-management systems such as PoE.
  • Support hardware validation and bring-up for new SoCs, and investigate issues across bootloader, kernel, and application layers as well as between firmware and electrical subsystems.

System Integration and Testing

  • Work closely with HWPMs, NPI team members, manufacturing partners, and trusted vendors.
  • Assemble, test, and improve functional prototypes through iterative development.
  • Diagnose product-level issues where mechanical constraints and firmware behavior interact.

Qualifications

The team is looking for someone who is deeply capable in one discipline and effectively versatile in the other. You do not need to be an expert in both areas, but you should be strong in one and comfortable operating in the other.

Why This Role

If you want ownership across the full physical product development lifecycle and enjoy seeing code influence the movement and behavior of real hardware, this role offers that level of end-to-end responsibility.

Additional Information

Location: San Francisco, CA. Employment type: full-time, onsite.

Eligibility

Suitable for candidates with practical experience spanning mechanical engineering and embedded systems, especially those who can operate across hardware and software boundaries.

Education Requirement

A bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent level of practical experience is expected.

Baseline Skills

You should be comfortable with 3D CAD/drafting, embedded development, Linux or RTOS environments, bootloaders or kernel debugging, and standard hardware communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, and UART, along with the tools used to debug their electrical implementation.

Bonus Experience

Extra value will be given to candidates who have taken an IoT hardware product from concept through mass production and post-launch support, worked with Linux-based platforms such as MediaTek, Qualcomm, or Marvell, or implemented wired and wireless networking protocols.
