Role Summary
The Inventory Control & Planning Specialist plays a dual role focused on maintaining precise inventory management and developing realistic production plans. The position acts as the human control layer ensuring inventory accuracy and compliance within existing systems as the company moves toward ERP integration. The specialist verifies inventory transactions, resolves discrepancies, enforces controls, and documents processes. On the planning side, the role translates demand forecasts into actionable production schedules, manages line capacity and waste, and serves as the key planning expert at the site. Both functions support each other to ensure reliable, accurate inventory foundation for production planning.
Responsibilities
- Ensure accuracy and reconciliation of inventory transactions across shift changes for raw materials, work in progress, and finished goods.
- Verify inventory data continuously, identifying and reporting deviations, and collaborating with management for corrective actions.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert for inventory processes, mapping and documenting procedures to be audit-ready.
- Provide feedback and operator training to enforce FIFO, FEFO, and inventory controls.
- Recommend improvements to inventory systems, including preparations for future ERP implementation.
- Develop and manage production schedules based on purchase orders, delivery timelines, and inventory status.
- Oversee line capacity planning, standard run rates, and load balancing to optimize production efficiency.
- Track and analyze line-specific waste, investigating root causes and driving waste reduction targets in both percentage and cost.
- Confirm material availability and mitigate shortage risks to ensure smooth production without overbuilding.
- Monitor and report on plan attainment, schedule adherence, and production metrics.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in supply chain, operations, planning, business, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in inventory control or production planning within a manufacturing setting.
- Advanced proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets), including formulas, data lookups, reconciliation, and modeling.
- Familiarity with production scheduling and capacity planning principles.
- Exceptional attention to detail and capability to perform reliable, repetitive verification tasks.
- Effective communication skills for reporting discrepancies and instructing operators.
- Comfortable working on site within a production environment and coordinating activities across multiple shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with regulated inventories such as cannabis, excise, pharmaceutical, or food industries (not mandatory, training provided).
- Exposure to Good Production Practices (GPP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), or compliance environments.
- Knowledge of FIFO, FEFO, cycle counting, capacity modelling, utilization analysis, and waste minimization strategies.
- Participation in ERP or planning system implementations.

Working Conditions
This is an on-site role located at a cannabis edibles manufacturing facility in Etobicoke, Ontario. Duties require movement throughout production and storage zones and coordination with shift teams. Flexibility in working hours may be necessary to verify transactions spanning shift handoffs. Compliance with GPP, GMP, safety, and regulatory standards is mandatory.
