Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Intermediate Taxation Accountant to join our team immediately on a nine-month fixed-term assignment. This role is created to cover for an employee commencing parental leave. While there could be further opportunities post the fixed term depending on the firm's needs, continuation beyond this contract is not assured.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of annual financial statements and income tax returns for a variety of entities including companies, trusts, partnerships, sole traders, and individuals.
  • Managing and reviewing GST returns, payroll submissions, and other tax compliance tasks.
  • Examining clients' income and expenditure, operational costs, and associated accounting documentation.
  • Generating management reports, conducting tax calculations, and compiling necessary supporting workpapers.
  • Regular communication with Inland Revenue related to client tax matters.
  • Offering practical advice on taxation and accounting to clients.
  • Verifying accuracy and thoroughness of financial statements and tax filings.
  • Direct client interaction, addressing queries related to taxation and accounting.
  • Ensuring deadlines are met and maintaining strong relationships with clients.

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum of two years recent public practice experience in New Zealand, specifically handling tax compliance responsibilities.
  • Hands-on knowledge in preparing New Zealand financial statements, income tax, and GST returns.
  • Strong understanding of NZ taxation and accounting standards.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting or a related field.
  • Familiarity with accounting software such as MYOB and Xero.
  • Ability to work independently on compliance tasks and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional accuracy with keen attention to detail.
