Thames Valley Police is seeking a full-time Intelligence Research Officer to play a vital role in identifying threats, harm, and risks that affect the safety and quality of life for residents and visitors within the police jurisdiction. This position involves gathering, analysing, and disseminating intelligence related to crimes, disorder, and non-criminal incidents.
Key Responsibilities
- Access, retrieve, and input data into computer systems while adhering strictly to force policies and relevant laws such as the Data Protection Act.
- Utilize intelligence systems and open sources to develop comprehensive intelligence packages addressing identified problems and subjects.
- Communicate pertinent intelligence during daily and operational briefings aligned with Force and Local Policing Area (LPA) priorities to highlight threats, risks, and harms.
- Create and regularly update daily intelligence briefings for LPAs, ensuring relevant internal and external dissemination.
- Research and assess information to identify crime patterns, trends, and hotspots to effectively direct police resources.
- Handle intelligence in compliance with Management of Police Information guidance, Memoranda of Understanding, and Information Sharing Agreements.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders in the intelligence process to facilitate effective intelligence exchanges, including participation in crime series meetings and cross-border briefings.
- Coordinate observational support for operational activities as directed by Intelligence Supervisors and senior tasking authorities.
- Offer comprehensive support and guidance to officers and staff regarding intelligence submissions and assist with CID51 applications for Level 2 support via established processes.
- Develop intelligence products to support actions against organized crime groups and identify serious offences that need advanced research techniques.
- Carry out research and complete RIPA and telecommunications applications using the Charter database, contributing to FRAM and FIA processes.
- Maintain close communication with LPAs, Force CID, other intelligence units, and relevant departments.
- Fulfil all role-related responsibilities with an enhanced level of vetting due to the sensitive nature of work.
Additional Information
Applicants who are current Thames Valley Police employees must have served at least 12 months in their present role or obtain line manager approval before applying.
