Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Scientist or Science Practitioner to join the Sleep Service at Trafford General Hospital, affiliated with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. This position involves working at both Trafford General Hospital and Withington Community Hospital as part of the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). The role is for 22.5 hours per week, including weekend, evening, and night shifts on a rotating basis to meet service needs.
About the Sleep Service
The Sleep Service is a modern, dynamic facility serving a large population in the North West region. It supports a CPAP user base exceeding 8,000 patients and offers a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic pathways, including assessing and managing non-respiratory sleep disorders. The service is also engaged in education and training, contributing to the teaching of students enrolled in the PTP course at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct, analyze, and report results from both inpatient and outpatient sleep studies such as respiratory polygraphy, full video polysomnography, multiple sleep latency tests, maintenance of wakefulness tests, and actigraphy.
- Commence CPAP therapy and manage follow-up care using established protocols through both face-to-face and telephone clinics.
- Provide teaching, training, and mentorship for students and junior staff members.
Work Pattern and Location
The service supports flexible working arrangements; however, the successful candidate must participate in evening shifts on a rotation schedule. Travel between Trafford General Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre at Withington Community Hospital will be required depending on service demands.
