Job description
Position Overview
The newly formed Central South Island Water organisation seeks a seasoned Head of Human Resources to establish and lead its HR function. This role presents a unique chance to develop HR frameworks, systems, and culture from inception to support the organisation's mission to provide vital water services to South Canterbury communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and implement comprehensive HR systems, policies, and processes foundational to the organisation’s operations.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, remuneration, performance management, learning and development, employment relations, and workforce planning.
- Lead the HR function’s transition from establishment to steady-state operations, delivering a commercially minded, responsive HR service.
- Advise and influence senior leadership with sound judgement to foster organisational capability and culture.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive senior-level experience in HR generalist roles with a strong understanding of New Zealand employment laws and practices.
- Proven track record in designing and deploying HR frameworks and systems.
- Skilled in managing employment relations, remuneration schemes, performance and development initiatives, recruitment, and workforce planning.
- Experience in supporting organisational change, establishment phases, or workforce transitions.
- Practical, collaborative style with the agility to operate in a dynamic, evolving environment.
- Motivated by the opportunity to build and shape a new organisation’s people function from the ground up.
Additional Information
This position reports initially to the Interim Chief Executive, later to the General Manager Corporate Services. The role is based in either Timaru or Fairlie within the Canterbury region of New Zealand. This is a full-time, onsite role.
