The Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled Graphic Designer who blends creativity with effective communication to animate the City of Maribyrnong's visual presence. This role values design as a tool to simplify information, enhance accessibility of services, and strengthen community connections.
The Graphic Designer will produce engaging designs for various media including print, digital platforms, social media, websites, campaigns, events, and community outreach. Responsibilities include ensuring all outputs are clear, accessible, consistent, and distinctly representative of Maribyrnong.
The role also involves maintaining and developing the brand identity, creating templates and design assets, managing the Digital Asset Management System, and assisting colleagues with confident communication.
The ideal candidate enjoys transforming complex concepts into straightforward, appealing visuals, collaborates well, solves problems thoughtfully, pays close attention to detail, and takes pride in delivering impressive and effective design work reflecting the creative, diverse, and welcoming spirit of Maribyrnong.
Key Responsibilities
- Design visually appealing and effective materials for multiple formats such as print, digital, social media, web, signage, campaigns, events, and community engagement.
- Maintain and promote the City of Maribyrnong's visual identity, keeping branding, templates, and resources contemporary, coherent, and user-friendly.
- Simplify complex council information into accessible and understandable visual content.
- Develop inclusive materials accommodating varying language, literacy, digital access, and information needs.
- Create and update style guides, templates, Canva resources, and shared design tools.
- Establish and support implementation of design, brand, and digital communication policies and procedures.
About You
- Possess a tertiary qualification in graphic design, visual communication, communication design, or an allied discipline; or possess equivalent relevant experience.
- Have multiple years of experience delivering high-quality design, branding, template creation, digital asset management, and production work in a dynamic organizational or community-oriented setting.
- Experience in local government, public sector, or community-focused environments, particularly with accessible communication, plain English, diverse audiences, service design, or place-based storytelling is highly valued.
- Skills in video editing, motion graphics, or basic animation for digital channels are advantageous.

Additional Information
- Permanent full-time position classified as Band 6 with a salary range of $99,705 to $108,027 plus 12% superannuation and monthly accrued day off.
- Work location is Footscray, Melbourne.
