Overview
Euro Group for Engineering Consultancy in Saudi Arabia seeks a GIS Specialist dedicated to establishing a scientifically robust environmental baseline. This role involves developing a data-driven strategy to enhance regulatory frameworks, promote sustainable development, and facilitate long-term environmental governance across the operational region.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage spatial data workflows by collecting, processing, and maintaining datasets such as field sampling locations, monitoring stations, land use, infrastructure, remote sensing imagery, and environmental layers.
- Develop, update, and oversee GIS layers, geodatabases, and associated metadata ensuring data consistency and accessibility.
- Create thematic, geostatistical, and spatial visualization maps supporting baseline reports, monitoring strategies, and presentations.
- Perform spatial analyses including site suitability, hotspot detection, interpolation, buffer zones, and overlay techniques to assist in sampling design, anomaly detection, and identifying pollution sources.
- Integrate diverse data sources such as satellite imagery, field measurements, laboratory outcomes, LiDAR, and UAV data to feed into statistical and trend analysis efforts.
- Establish and enforce GIS workflows and standard operating procedures guaranteeing metadata completeness and spatial data quality control.
- Support the development and integration of centralized environmental data systems, facilitating data exchange, API utilization, and map service deployment.
- Collaborate closely with field personnel, laboratory analysts, statisticians, and data engineers to ensure spatial outputs are accurate and practical.
- Produce cartographic materials and presentation-ready maps for technical documentation and stakeholder communications.
- Conduct training sessions and offer technical assistance to clients on GIS tools, data interpretation, and map production techniques.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geospatial Science, Environmental Data, Geography, Environmental Science, or related disciplines.
- Preferably formal certifications or training in GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS, as well as spatial analysis methods.
- At least three years of professional experience in GIS with a focus on environmental monitoring, natural resource management, or similar projects.
- Proven expertise in map creation, geodatabase management, and spatial data analysis tailored for field monitoring programs.
Technical Proficiencies
- Advanced skills in ArcGIS and/or QGIS software platforms.
- Competence with remote sensing and image processing technologies including satellite and UAV data.
- Strong background in spatial statistics and geostatistical methods such as interpolation, hotspot analysis, spatial joins, and both raster and vector data handling.
- Experience in geodatabase architecture, metadata compliance, and thorough data quality assurance measures.
- Knowledge of environmental data types covering air, water, soil, and noise parameters, including spatial sampling methodologies.
- Ability to create high-quality map visualizations appropriate for reports and web-based mapping applications.
- Familiarity with data integration formats (CSV, shapefiles, GeoJSON, raster) and scripting capabilities (Python/ArcPy, GDAL) is an advantage.
- Exposure to web GIS services and integration with broader environmental data management systems is preferred.
Core Competencies
- Strong commitment to maintaining spatial data accuracy and implementing rigorous quality assurance and control protocols.
- Effective communication skills facilitating teamwork across multidisciplinary groups.
- Problem-solving aptitude, strong organizational skills, and ability to meet project deadlines.
- Capability to train and mentor client personnel in advanced GIS applications and methodologies.
