Role overview
A client in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls area is looking for a dependable Facilities Technician to support the daily operation of the facilities department. Reporting to the Supervisor of Facilities, this person will help keep the building, grounds, and related systems functioning safely and efficiently.
Key duties
- Carry out routine preventive maintenance so building systems continue to run efficiently and the property remains in good condition.
- Work with a variety of hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and electrical or electronic test equipment.
- Maintain working knowledge of utility shut-offs and the placement of meters and monitoring devices.
- Handle grounds care tasks such as lawn cutting, landscaping, and general property upkeep.
- Support building security duties when needed.
- Complete assigned work orders promptly and accurately.
- Keep carts, lifts, and safety equipment available and easy to access.
- Clean public areas by sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, and completing other routine housekeeping tasks as required.
- Clean and restock restrooms, including wiping and disinfecting counters, fixtures, doors, toilets, urinals, showers, mirrors, dispensers, and changing tables.
- Maintain parking lots and surrounding sidewalks by cleaning debris and keeping the exterior areas presentable.
- Remove snow and ice from parking lots, sidewalks, loading ramps, and other outdoor spaces.
- Carry out opening and closing duties efficiently and on schedule.
- Empty trash and recycling containers during operating hours and move waste to the proper disposal areas at the end of the day.
- Track supply levels in the supply closet and advise the Supervisor of Facilities when items need to be replenished.
- Take on additional tasks and responsibilities assigned by leadership.
Requirements
- A valid driver’s license is required because company vehicles may need to be operated.
- Experience in maintenance work or building grounds support is preferred.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Strong reading, writing, and spoken English communication skills are needed.
- Basic understanding of cleaning methods and safe work practices is expected.
- Ability to work on your own with limited oversight, while also contributing well as part of a team.
Working conditions
- The role requires standing and walking outdoors in harsh weather conditions for long periods, including sunny, wet, and humid environments.
- Physical work includes pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- The job involves using common hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment as part of day-to-day duties.
