Job description
Job Overview
We are looking for a competent Fabrication Fitter who prioritizes safety and accuracy to join our expanding team. The selected individual will be in charge of laying out, cutting, assembling, and fitting structural steel and various metal components in alignment with engineering drawings and technical specifications. A strong focus on detail, quality standards, and maintaining safety in the workplace is critical.
Primary Responsibilities
- Interpret complex technical blueprints, engineering drawings, and schematics to understand dimensions and allowable tolerances.
- Precisely measure, mark, and scribe on metal materials including plates, beams, and pipes using calibrated tools such as squares, calipers, and tape measures.
- Utilize cutting machinery like oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutters, saws, and shears to shape raw metal stock as required.
- Assemble, align, and temporarily secure metal parts using tack welding or bolting to fabricate structural frameworks, vessels, machine parts, or sub-assemblies.
- Employ hand and power tools such as grinders, drills, files, and sanders to refine and finish components to exact specifications.
- Collaborate effectively with welders, quality inspectors, and other workshop personnel to ensure smooth completion of projects.
- Maintain orderly and safe workspace, conduct pre-use inspections of equipment, and rigorously follow all health and safety guidelines.
Requirements
- Completed high school education; certification from an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) or a diploma in Mechanical or Fabrication Engineering is highly desirable.
- Practical experience of 3 to over 6 years as a Fabrication Fitter within heavy or light engineering sectors, structural steel works, or manufacturing environments.
- Ability to read fabrication and structural blueprints proficiently.
- Familiarity with welding techniques such as SMAW/MMAW, MIG, TIG, and thermal cutting equipment.
- Skilled in the use of workshop hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
- Physical endurance to handle heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in challenging positions or elevated locations.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, punctuality, and a capacity for teamwork.
