Overview
V/Line is seeking expressions of interest for Station Staff and Conductor roles within the Shepparton area. As part of our mission to connect the community through safe and reliable transport, these positions contribute directly to enhancing passenger experiences and operational safety. Candidates should be aware that this is an expression of interest; roles will be offered as they become available following review of applications.
Role Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional customer service to passengers on trains or at stations.
- Conduct safety checks and oversee the well-being of passengers onboard trains (Conductor role).
- Maintain continuous communication with train drivers and update passenger counts using dedicated apps.
- Respond to first aid needs and conduct spot cleaning of trains as needed.
- Operate as the first point of contact for passengers at stations, selling tickets, making announcements, and coordinating coach activities.
- Manage challenging situations with professionalism including conflict de-escalation.
- Maintain station cleanliness and safety standards, including minor maintenance tasks such as cleaning toilets and windows.
- Assist with ticket inspections, luggage handling, and preparing trains for service readiness, including cleanliness and functionality.
- Operate effectively within a 24/7 rotating roster, including potential work at multiple stations within 80 kilometers of the home depot.
- Manage equipment and facility issues by reporting them promptly.
Candidate Profile
- Possess excellent communication and customer service skills with a calm and approachable demeanor.
- Capable of working under pressure while maintaining professionalism and emotional resilience.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing environments and schedules.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and completed at least Year 10 education or equivalent.
- Willingness to travel between stations along the Shepparton line as required.
- Prior experience in in-person customer service roles and commitment to workplace safety culture.
- Residence within approximately 40 kilometers of the station to support safety and fatigue management requirements.
Training and Remuneration
Selected candidates will receive paid training, including obtaining a Certificate III in Rail Customer Service, which takes 3-4 weeks followed by 2-3 weeks of on-the-job training. During training, trainees are eligible for a special rate ($29.75/hour for Station Staff and $38.50/hour for Conductors). Upon qualification, wages increase to $45.98/hour for Station Staff and $51.43/hour for Conductors, plus superannuation, loadings, and penalties as per the current V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employees Agreement 2023.
