Estimator

About the Role

We are supporting a reputable construction company located in Dunston seeking an Estimator to join their team and lead the preparation and securing of profitable projects. Reporting directly to the Pre-Construction Director, the Estimator will manage the end-to-end bidding process, ensuring all tender submissions meet client expectations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the main contact for bids and tenders.
• Define and communicate tender requirements clearly to the bid team.
• Collaborate with both internal and external designers to develop designs ready for pricing.
• Quantify materials and resources by extracting measurements from tender drawings.
• Calculate rates for Bill of Quantities items considering labor, equipment, and materials.
• Coordinate supply chain requests and quotations.
• Contribute to planning activities during tender stages.
• Incorporate innovation and value engineering to enhance tender competitiveness.
• Work closely with tender preparation team members to ensure full compliance with client demands.
• Present tenders to company directors for submission approval.
• Prepare and dispatch complete tender documents to clients.
• Manage tenders with detailed oversight throughout the bidding cycle.
• Collaborate with the Bid team to secure design and construction contracts.
• Assist in adopting digital tools for cost estimation, including 5D cost planning.
• Participate in Tender Health Checks and risk assessment reviews to mitigate identified risks.
• Ensure all cost planning is accurate and aligns with project risks and requirements.
• Engage in client negotiations post-tender with their professional teams.
• Ensure a comprehensive handover to delivery and commercial teams for winning bids, following IP 06 standards.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Appropriate construction-related qualification such as HNC, HND, or Degree.
• Ability to interpret tender documents and contract terms effectively.
• Experience with BIM-enabled design processes.
• Competence in developing comprehensive lifecycle costings.
• Understanding of subcontract terms and conditions formulation.
• Skill in creating compelling value propositions focused on cost, durability, carbon footprint, and aesthetics.
• Proven ability to develop competitive tenders and manage price procurement and variations.
• Proficiency in producing detailed product and service specifications.
• Capacity to accurately read and analyze technical drawings.
• Strong track record of performing under strict deadlines.
• Knowledge of building construction principles.
• Familiarity with contract law and current construction technologies.
• Experience with relevant IT tools and lean methodologies.
• Understanding quality assurance processes and associating typical costs.
• Comprehension of material properties such as weight, volume, and dimensions.
