Equipment Manager

Job Overview

This full-time position, based in Spokane, Washington, involves overseeing all aspects of equipment management within Gonzaga University's athletics department. The role requires adherence to NCAA, Pac 12, and Gonzaga University policies and includes forecasting, purchasing, distributing, and maintaining athletic equipment and apparel. Maintaining inventory accuracy, managing laundry services, and supervising student staff are also key responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities

• Serve as the main contact for NIKE/BSN representatives, managing orders and vendor relationships.
• Forecast equipment needs, place orders, handle delivery issues, and oversee returns.
• Organize and maintain equipment and locker rooms ensuring orderliness and security.
• Manage accounts payable related to equipment purchases, ensuring budget compliance and communication with coaches regarding financial constraints.
• Process incoming deliveries, verify contents, and update the equipment management system.
• Oversee inventory records and maintain athlete and staff sizing information using the Equipcheck system.
• Communicate equipment policies, ensure athlete eligibility for equipment issuance, and maintain equipment quality and manufacturer guidelines adherence.
• Return defective items to vendors and monitor replacements or credits.
• Collaborate with the Director of Trademark and Licensing to uphold brand standards.
• Supervise daily equipment room operations, including security and maintenance.
• Evaluate equipment quality, price, and vendor service, assisting coaches with requests and orders.
• Manage sanitation and laundry services for all teams and visiting squads.
• Stay informed on safety standards regarding athletic equipment.
• Organize team and individual awards orders, maintaining records.
• Repair or replace worn apparel and ensure equipment readiness for practices and competitions.
• Supervise and train student employees, manage scheduling and performance evaluations, and ensure adherence to policies.
• Ensure NCAA compliance in all department operations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum two years of professional experience in collegiate athletic equipment management or a related field.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Highly organized, motivated, and capable of multitasking effectively.
• Demonstrated sound decision-making and fiscal management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification from the Athletic Equipment Managers Association.
• Experience with Equipcheck or similar inventory tracking software.
• Prior experience in higher education settings and intercollegiate athletics.
• Proven supervisory experience.
