Role overview
This full-time onsite role is for an Environmental Services Technician III based in Springfield, GA. The position supports a healthcare environment by delivering thorough, timely disinfection and cleaning to help keep patient areas safe, sanitary, and low-risk for infection. The work is carried out independently and in line with Joint Commission requirements, federal, state, and local rules, as well as organizational and departmental procedures. The role calls for initiative, adaptability, and the ability to work with limited supervision in a busy setting.
What the role involves
The technician reports to the Environmental Services Manager and contributes across the EVS department, with key focus areas including floor care, supply tracking, computer/software support for EVS staff, and special cleaning assignments. The position also includes supporting team members, monitoring safety and compliance, and helping maintain a clean environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Key duties
- Carry out high-level disinfectant cleaning for critical patient areas and other assigned spaces.
- Perform basic maintenance on powered cleaning equipment, including lubrication, pad changes, filter replacement, battery checks, and post-use cleaning of machines.
- Inspect and document equipment and chemical safety checks.
- Use all equipment safely and according to manufacturer and facility standards.
- Report any equipment malfunction promptly to prevent injury or damage.
- Track supplies, notify the manager about inventory needs, and organize stocked items.
- Complete special EVS projects and other specialized cleaning tasks as assigned.
- Handle floor care tasks such as mopping, scrubbing, stripping, finishing, vacuuming, shampooing carpets, deodorizing carpets, and polishing patient room floors on a rotation.
- Stay current on cleaning chemicals, including correct usage and dilution methods.
- Mix and dispense chemicals safely and accurately into labeled containers.
- Conduct pre-surveys for potential health and environmental hazards with minimal oversight.
- Monitor vendor activity on site to confirm compliance with contract requirements.
- Serve as a departmental safety lead by sharing safety updates and reinforcing correct procedures.
- Help improve departmental performance, including cleanliness-related HCAHPS initiatives.
- Provide computer and system support to EVS staff for tools such as Our People Matter, NOVAtime, Paylocity, and NetLearning.
- Act as backup support for EVS Technician I, EVS Technician II, and Floor Tech duties when needed.
- Assist with setup for events, meetings, seminars, and training sessions.
- Move furniture and equipment as needed to allow cleaning.
- Collect, transport, and secure medical waste and sanitize biowaste containers.
- Ensure medical waste storage areas remain secured and monitor contractor pickup and delivery of waste containers.
- Follow infection control procedures for handling biohazardous waste, including proper sealing of red bags.
- Report repair needs for equipment, furniture, fixtures, and building items through the help desk system.
- Attend meetings, in-services, and mandatory policy or procedure reviews.
- Maintain required reports, records, and documentation.
- Use required protective equipment and follow all safety guidelines.
- Support teamwork and communicate issues or concerns to the manager.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
The employer is looking for someone with a high school diploma or GED preferred, or an equivalent mix of education, training, and experience. The role also calls for basic computer ability, including email use and completion of online training with little help. A DOT Hazardous Waste certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Candidates should also bring about three years of related experience working with various cleaning equipment, ideally in a healthcare or similar environment.
