As part of Engineering Excellence—a newly formed team within BNZ Technology dedicated to enhancing engineering practices by promoting simpler, safer, and more robust technology delivery—this role plays a critical part in shaping our approach to enterprise interfaces and APIs, including the safe and practical incorporation of AI to strengthen design and governance.

Role Overview

The Enterprise Interface Lead is a leadership position focusing on the entire organization’s engineering practices related to interface design, API standards, and integration models. Unlike roles concentrated on specific domains, this position sets strategic direction, offers guidance, and leads governance and enablement efforts to facilitate simpler, safer, and more resilient integrations. The role relies on influence and enablement rather than formal authority.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and continuously refine enterprise-wide interface and API standards, patterns, and reusable resources.
• Manage the governance process for interfaces, ensuring integration decisions are consistent, risk-aware, and proportionate.
• Define transparent decision-making pathways and guardrails to guide teams on when and how integration decisions undergo review.
• Provide practical advice on interface design trade-offs, review designs, and assist teams in making informed decisions.
• Collaborate closely with Architecture and Platform teams to align standards, governance, and enterprise objectives.
• Promote adoption of interface standards by creating enablement materials such as playbooks, templates, guidelines, and by facilitating communities of practice.
• Enhance resilience, observability, and incident readiness for critical integrations.
• Ensure governance processes are streamlined, transparent, and focused on outcomes rather than mere compliance.
• Work in partnership to embed interface expectations into standards, tools, and delivery workflows.

Strategic Focus

This role is central to evolving BNZ’s integration capabilities by standardizing interface and API patterns across teams, establishing trusted governance models that enable efficient decision-making without impeding agility, improving consistency in design and consumption of interfaces, reducing unnecessary integration complexity and technical debt, strengthening operational readiness, and supporting platform modernization via pragmatic standards and governance.

Success Criteria

Success is measured by the consistent application of well-understood interface standards across the organization, supported by a governance process that teams trust. Integration decisions become clearer and faster, operational reliability improves through enhanced resilience and observability, avoidable integration issues decline, and engineers have clear expectations and transparent decision pathways. Interface governance is viewed as an enabler rather than an obstacle.

• Demonstrated ability to lead and influence decision-making without formal authority.

Reporting to the Engineering Excellence Enablement Manager, this role functions primarily via influence, enabling teams through coaching and clear frameworks rather than formal authority. Close collaboration with Architecture, Platform, and delivery teams is essential to reduce integration friction and mitigate operational risk while maintaining delivery pace.
