Job description

Overview

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks dedicated individuals to fill the critical role of Employee in Charge (EIC) in Yakima, WA. This position is essential to maintaining safety on railroad rights-of-way during maintenance and operational activities.

Role Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain on-track safety measures, including installation of derails, placement of track signs, and usage of other safety devices.
  • Produce detailed daily field reports and document any violations of safety protocols and regulations.
  • Coordinate job-site activities to ensure smooth and secure operations.
  • Maintain radio communication with dispatchers and train crews to report on safety status.
  • Conduct thorough and clear pre-job briefings with all crew members before track entry.
  • Ensure compliance with Railroad, State, and Federal safety policies and guidelines.

Candidate Requirements

  • At least two years of railroad experience, preferably within the maintenance of way department.
  • High school diploma or equivalent educational qualification.
  • Valid driver's license to support travel requirements.
  • Proficient in the use of tablets, smartphones, and communication devices for effective coordination.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, sometimes for multiple months consecutively (50% to 85% travel).
  • Successful completion of Federal, Client, or company-specific training as needed.

Working Conditions

This role involves fieldwork conducted alongside active railroad tracks. The candidate must be prepared for significant travel commitments.

  • Hourly wage ranging between $25 and $37, depending on experience.
