Job description
Position Overview
We are seeking to appoint an experienced EHS Engineer to oversee environmental health and safety functions at our Riyadh location within the Power Transmission & Distribution sector. The role involves preparing, implementing, and monitoring EHS documentation and safety protocols to ensure workplace compliance and safety.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain EHS-related documentation, including EHS plans, emergency response plans, and risk assessments.
- Participate actively in all EHS meetings alongside clients and project teams.
- Report all EHS-related matters to the head office promptly.
- Conduct EHS induction training sessions for new employees joining the project.
- Perform daily EHS inspections within assigned zones to ensure compliance and safety.
- Verify that all engineers and supervisors secure appropriate safe work permits from clients and main contractors before commencing work.
- Carry out comprehensive risk assessments throughout the site and notify site engineers or relevant contractors about identified high-risk areas.
- Ensure that toolbox talks are delivered weekly by engineers to raise EHS awareness among workers.
- Monitor that all personnel utilize mandatory personal protective equipment such as helmets, safety shoes, and coveralls.
- Inspect equipment like ladders and scaffolding to confirm they are in safe, working condition prior to use.
- Oversee health and hygiene standards for workers, ensuring the availability of water, rest areas, and adequate lighting and ventilation.
- Maintain proper housekeeping on the project site to prevent any accidents or incidents.
- Conduct job-specific EHS analyses for high-risk activities to mitigate hazards effectively.
- Promote EHS best practices among workers and engineers, encouraging proactive safety engagement.
- Lead investigations of minor and major incidents in collaboration with engineers, communicating findings to inform future preventive measures.
- Provide first-aid or arrange medical help promptly in case of worker injuries.
- Keep comprehensive documentation of all EHS activities and audits.
- Establish and oversee upgraded integrated health, safety, and environmental management systems compliant with ISO-45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 9001 standards.
- Organize and conduct training programs on various EHS topics for on-site workers and engineers, as well as for HR-coordinated sessions.
- Identify hazards and assess risks for critical activities, ensuring method statements reflect these assessments.
- Coordinate external EHS audits and third-party equipment inspections.
- Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans, including conducting emergency drills.
- Facilitate the implementation of a work permit system and coordinate occupational health and welfare initiatives.
- Prepare EHS-related contract conditions for subcontractors and enforce safety measures, including the authority to stop unsafe work practices.
- Perform monthly project risk management audits and quarterly system audits.
- Deliver regular EHS performance reports to project and IC heads, keeping them informed of safety status and compliance.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology (BTech/BEng).
- 5 to 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in power transmission and distribution projects.
- Proficiency in preparing safety documentation and managing compliance according to EH&S standards.
- Experienced with audits and management systems certified under ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 standards.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and standards such as NEBOSH, NIOSH, OSHA.
- Capability to conduct fire inspections, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
- Familiarity with overseas safety standards and leadership in crisis management.
