About the Role
This permanent part-time position is located at the Maungawhau | Mount Eden office in Auckland. The Early Intervention Teacher will join the regional Learning Support team to deliver high-quality educational support following the Ministry's He Pikorua practice framework, Te Whariki Early Childhood Curriculum, and Te Whariki a te Kohanga Reo. You will collaborate with families, teachers, and whānau to build capacity in supporting children's learning, develop and oversee intervention plans, and facilitate smooth transitions into early childhood education and school. The role may also involve working with trans-disciplinary teams in cases where children's needs are complex.
Responsibilities
- Deliver effective learning support aligned to established educational guidelines and principles.
- Strengthen the skills of parents, teachers, and families to best support children's learning and development.
- Assess family needs and collaborate to plan and implement suitable intervention strategies.
- Support critical transition points for children entering early childhood education and school environments.
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams for cases involving complex learning needs.
Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Teaching and full registration as a teacher.
- Hold or be willing to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention within four years of starting.
- Have several years of teaching experience with solid understanding of child development, learning, and behavior.
- Demonstrate knowledge of various disabilities and their impact on family life and early education.
- Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse learners, families, and educators.
- Understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
- Hold a full driver’s license.
- Be a New Zealand citizen, resident, or possess a valid work visa.
- Comply with the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
About the Team
The Learning Support team plays a vital role within the Ministry's Education Services by enabling children and young learners with additional needs to reach their full potential. The team works closely with families, caregivers, educational institutions across English and Māori mediums, and partner agencies to boost educational achievement and promote inclusiveness.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this role is between $69,966 and $106,016 per annum, complemented by KiwiSaver benefits. The final salary will depend on individual qualifications and experience.
