Job description
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Director of Electrical Engineering to lead the design and technical delivery of electrical building services for a US multinational engineering consulting firm based in Singapore. This senior role involves managing complete electrical system lifecycles, client coordination, regulatory compliance, and practice development within a dynamic consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end design for electrical building systems including low and high voltage power distribution, switchboards, emergency power (standby generators, UPS), lighting and controls, earthing and lightning protection, fire alarm and emergency lighting systems, from schematic design through detailed construction documentation and administration.
- Prepare and oversee electrical load calculations, short circuit and coordination studies, cable sizing, design reports, technical specifications and detailed drawings ensuring compliance with project and quality standards.
- Provide professional certification by signing and stamping electrical drawings/documents as a Qualified Person (QP)/registered Professional Engineer with Singapore's Professional Engineers Board.
- Ensure all designs meet Singapore regulations such as SS 638 electrical installation code, EMA, SCDF fire and emergency lighting stipulations, BCA and SP Group supply requirements.
- Manage submissions and licensing applications to local authorities including EMA, BCA, SCDF, and SP Group covering LV/HV system turn-on and documentation.
- Conduct design reviews and quality assurance checks of team deliverables and coordinate with other engineering disciplines to resolve clashes in BIM and onsite.
- Apply expertise in short-circuit analysis, coordination studies and arc flash hazard assessments.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently ensuring timely and technically sound delivery while acting as the principal technical liaison for clients, architects, contractors and sub-contractors.
- Lead project meetings, site visits and design coordination sessions throughout project phases.
- Review and provide feedback on shop drawings, as-built records, method statements, and contractor submissions.
- Support tender document preparation, fee proposals and scope definition for electrical engineering services.
- Drive growth of electrical engineering practice by developing internal standards, QA/QC processes, and design guideline aligned to Singapore's market and regulations.
- Mentor engineering staff and promote knowledge sharing within the team and across global offices, particularly in areas like Smart Buildings, ICT integration and mission-critical electrical systems.
- Stay updated on industry developments, regulatory changes, emerging technologies and sustainability best practices relevant to electrical systems in Singapore.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical or Building Services Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Active registration as a Professional Engineer (Electrical) with the Professional Engineers Board, Singapore (must hold at hire).
- At least 15 years of progressive post-degree experience in electrical building services engineering within a consulting environment.
- Demonstrated capability in designing LV and HV power distribution, emergency power, lighting, earthing, lightning protection, and fire alarm and emergency lighting for medium to large projects.
- Relevant experience in Critical Facilities, Healthcare, Aviation, and Commercial buildings, including power redundancy, UPS, generator paralleling and Tier classification design.
- Hands-on experience submitting and obtaining approvals from Singapore statutory authorities as a Qualified Person including LV/HV system commissioning documentation.
- Proven track record of managing multiple consultancy electrical engineering projects from start to finish.
- Experience working within Southeast Asia, with familiarity of local codes beyond Singapore.
- Proficiency with Revit MEP, AutoCAD and electrical analysis software such as ETAP or DIALux.
- Strong communication skills in English to author technical reports and engage stakeholders.
- Postgraduate qualifications (MEng/MSc), professional memberships (CIBSE, IET, IES), sustainability certifications (BCA Green Mark, LEED, WELL), knowledge of IDD/BIM workflows and familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier or TIA-942 standards are advantageous.
