Over approximately 10-12 months, you will contribute to delivering critical digital banking solutions that align with Westpac's strategic priorities, while gaining firsthand experience in stable, secure, and dependable digital services used daily by customers. The programme begins in February 2027 with immersive onboarding alongside a broader graduate cohort, preparing you for your role and the wider business context.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Collaborate with seasoned engineers in designing, building, testing, and maintaining digital banking platforms.
• Adopt modern engineering methodologies such as Agile practices, code reviews, thorough documentation, testing, and continuous improvement.
• Develop a thorough understanding of digital channels, customer experience pathways, security principles, and how technology fosters exceptional banking services.
• Contribute actively to squad goals, participating in requirement analysis, development support, testing, deployment readiness, and live system support.
• Work alongside product owners, delivery leaders, analysts, designers, and fellow engineers to address customer needs and deliver safe, intuitive digital solutions.
• Explore the role of emerging technologies like AI and automation in enhancing engineering processes and customer experiences.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should be in their final academic year or have graduated with an undergraduate or postgraduate degree within the previous 12 months. Candidates must be New Zealand or Australian citizens or permanent residents. Ideal candidates are eager to establish careers in technology, software engineering, or digital delivery, and exhibit:

• An inquisitive mindset motivated to learn and grow.
• Basic software development knowledge, including interest areas such as web, mobile, APIs, data, automation, and AI.
• Practical problem-solving abilities, comfort with ambiguity, and a desire to improve processes.
• Ability to collaborate effectively, receive and incorporate feedback, and communicate clearly across technical and non-technical teams.
• Enthusiasm for contributing to secure, reliable, and user-friendly digital banking experiences.
