Job description
Overview
We are looking for a competent and meticulous Design Engineer skilled in SolidWorks and experienced in aluminium die casting. The role focuses on designing and developing tooling essential for production and machining, including pressure and gravity die casting dies, trimming tools, and fixtures.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop Pressure Die Casting (PDC) and Gravity Die Casting (GDC) dies.
- Create trimming tools, machining fixtures, and inspection gauges.
- Produce detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using SolidWorks.
- Optimize designs to improve manufacturability, reduce cost and cycle time.
- Validate designs through interference checks and tolerance analysis.
- Collaborate with production, tool rooms, and QA/QC teams to ensure design feasibility and continuous improvement.
- Modify and upgrade existing tooling as per shop floor feedback.
- Support trial runs and troubleshoot design-related challenges during manufacturing.
- Maintain proper documentation and manage revision control for all designs.
- Liaise with vendors for outsourced tooling, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
Requirements and Skills
- Expertise in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, detailing).
- Strong understanding of aluminium die casting processes, both PDC and GDC.
- Knowledge of tooling design principles such as gating, venting, cooling, and shrinkage management.
- Experience designing trimming tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Familiarity with machining processes and related tolerances.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings with GD&T standards.
- Problem-solving aptitude with meticulous attention to detail.
- Preferred qualifications include a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, prior experience in die casting or tooling industries, proficiency in simulation tools (like casting simulation), and knowledge of ERP/document control systems.

Compensation
