Database Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a database developer with a strong focus on SQL Server and T-SQL, who enjoys solving complex data challenges and helping essential systems stay stable and efficient.

This is a practical, hands-on position in which you will manage SQL Server environments, improve performance, and support the data pipelines that power important platforms. Most of your time will be spent working directly with T-SQL, troubleshooting live production issues, and making sure data moves dependably between systems.

You will work alongside engineers and data specialists, so the role also involves understanding how your work fits into the broader technology landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of production SQL Server databases and provide ongoing support.
• Create, refine, and maintain queries, stored procedures, functions, and database structures.
• Improve database performance and address issues as they arise.
• Support and enhance backend data pipelines and system integrations.
• Collaborate with engineers and data teams to maintain smooth system operation.
• Contribute to code quality and continuous improvement across the environment.

Requirements

• Proven, hands-on experience with SQL Server and T-SQL.
• Ability to write and optimise advanced SQL queries with confidence.
• Solid understanding of database design and data modelling.
• Experience working with ETL/ELT processes or backend data pipelines.
• Background in supporting production systems and resolving performance problems.
• Comfort working in a collaborative team and contributing to shared goals.

Preferred Skills

• Python for scripting or data manipulation.
• Exposure to cloud services such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience with orchestration tools or job scheduling frameworks.
• Working knowledge of Git and CI/CD practices.
