Position Overview
This fully remote role requires an annual onsite presence for one day at the Mount Sinai facility located at 150 E 42nd Street, New York, NY. As a senior contributor within the Pharmacy Analytics team, the Data Science Analyst II advances Mount Sinai's mission by delivering impactful analysis, reporting, and automation. The primary aim is to enhance pharmacy financial health, streamline operations, and facilitate informed clinical decisions. The role engages collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including Pharmacy, Finance, 340B compliance teams, Supply Chain, and Clinical Operations to build data-driven products that support strategic decisions across the health system.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze diverse datasets encompassing pharmacy, clinical, financial, claims, and administrative information sourced internally and externally.
- Engage with departmental teams to capture requirements for reporting tools and business intelligence solutions.
- Identify relevant data sources and appropriate analytical methods.
- Compile, organize, consolidate, and examine data to produce meaningful insights.
- Apply advanced statistical techniques to generate actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
- Mitigate challenges posed by data complexity and improve data quality in analytical models, escalating quality issues to IT or designated data stewards.
- Create and occasionally present reports and analyses to senior leadership and other stakeholders as requested.
- Oversee analysis related to various stakeholder groups including Contracting & Commercialization, Care Management, Medical Directors, Quality & Documentation, and IT/High Performance Computing projects.
- Serve as a liaison and analyst to internal clients, translating business needs into analytic and reporting solutions.
- Communicate effectively and ensure all requests are tracked and handled appropriately.
- Adhere to organizational standards governing metrics, data integrity, query design, and reporting formats to deliver high-quality analytic outcomes.
- Conduct competitive analyses, financial modeling, and explore new business processes via internal and external data insights.
- Collaborate with IT on continuous enhancement of Mount Sinai's integrated data warehouse for data consistency and strategic alignment.
- Lead project plans including milestones, timelines, and dependencies while maintaining communication on progress to stakeholders.
- Provide technical support to various business units relating to analytics tools and BI report development, including creation of dashboards and reports.
- Document analytic methods, key decisions, and caveats clearly to facilitate understanding and reproducibility.
- Train and equip customers to independently use BI tools and dashboards.
- Mentor junior analysts and promote analytical skills organization-wide, encouraging knowledge sharing for redundancy and strength building.
- Apply advanced process improvement methodologies in execution of duties.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field; master’s degree preferred.
- At least five years of experience in analytics development, preferably within healthcare settings such as health providers, plans, or accountable care organizations.
- Demonstrated familiarity with healthcare EMRs (e.g., Epic/Clarity, aCW), payer claims systems (e.g., Facets, Amisys), or hospital/provider systems (e.g., IDX, Soarian).
- Advanced skills in SQL (Oracle/OCI preferred), Tableau, Excel, and managing large relational datasets (Epic Clarity/Caboodle, Oracle Cloud).
- In-depth understanding of 340B compliance, hospital pharmacy operations, and medication usage data.
- Strong communication capabilities to convey data-driven insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Completion or pursuit of PhD, MD, or DO programs may substitute for three years of experience.
