Position Overview

This role involves inspecting contractors' work on various construction projects within assigned responsibilities such as traffic control, streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, driveways, water, wastewater, sewer, and storm drainage to verify adherence to plans, specifications, contracts, and ordinances. Documentation and reporting on inspections are also essential. This role serves as an entry-level position in the Construction Inspector series, focusing on more routine tasks including permit inspections related to City right-of-way work and storm drainage construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections on diverse construction assignments relative to designated areas, including plan reviews and enforcement of regulations while interpreting approved City plans.
  • Monitor all construction installations ensuring conformity with specifications and inspect all incoming construction materials.
  • Maintain precise documentation for inspection activities including daily logs, quantity verification through source books, change order documentation, environmental permits, testing reports, work order closures, and reimbursement requests.
  • Coordinate construction activities with other entities and serve as a communication point between contractors and project managers on inspection concerns.
  • Address public inquiries and complaints regarding construction projects.
  • Perform and coordinate various construction tests (asphalt, concrete, soil, water) aligning with specifications, collaborating with City and private laboratories.
  • Ensure proper and safe placement of traffic control devices in coordination with barricade inspectors.
  • Inspect contractor work for compliance with drainage specifications, plans, regulations, and ordinances concerning arroyos, pavements, concrete, water, sewer, wastewater, drainage, buildings, and structures; issue violation notices or citations when necessary.
