Position Overview

An opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Coder to join a well-established clinical coding team located in central Wellington. This full-time, permanent role requires onsite work from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately interpret and abstract diseases and procedures, coding them into alphanumeric formats following clinical classification systems and coding standards.
• Contribute to national data collections and support reporting needs that assist in service planning and enhanced healthcare delivery.
• Collaborate with clinical teams, health information professionals, and internal stakeholders to maintain coding accuracy and meet productivity goals.
• Participate actively in audit processes and educational programmes to promote continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Possession of HIMAA or an equivalent qualification covering anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• Hands-on clinical coding experience using ICD-10-AM, preferably the 12th Edition.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong focus on accuracy and detail in coding tasks.
• Ability to work independently while positively contributing to team collaboration.
• Effective organisational and time management abilities.
• A proactive mindset and eagerness for ongoing learning and development.

Preferred Qualifications

• HIMAA or equivalent clinical coding certification at Intermediate level or higher.
• Previous experience in hospital or healthcare settings.
• Knowledge and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and advancing equitable health outcomes.
