Job Overview
Kasapreko Company Limited based in Accra, Ghana, is seeking a dedicated Clearing Officer to join their team in a full-time onsite role. This position requires direct support in customs clearance and port operations for both imports and exports, specifically operating out of the Tema port. The officer will work under the supervision of the Clearing Supervisor or assigned designate to ensure timely and compliant handling of shipments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Accurately prepare, process, and verify customs documentation needed for import and export clearance, including invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, permits, and certificates.
- Coordinate effectively with clearing agents, shipping lines, port authorities, and regulatory bodies to expedite the clearance of consignments.
- Monitor shipment progress from arrival at port to final clearance and delivery, ensuring adherence to scheduled timelines.
- Assist in solving customs-related challenges such as delays, documentation discrepancies, and errors.
- Ensure full compliance with Ghana Customs regulations covering classification, valuation, and appropriate duty payments.
- Proactively work towards minimizing or eliminating costs related to demurrage, detention, and storage by diligent follow-ups.
- Maintain comprehensive and updated records of all clearance activities and related documents.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams including procurement, warehouse, and finance for smooth logistics operations.
- Track and regularly update shipment status reports, escalating issues to supervisors where necessary.
- Contribute to the creation of clearance and logistics reports focusing on cost monitoring and operational performance.
- Adhere strictly to company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements across all tasks.
- Stay current on changes or updates in customs procedures, port operations, and trade regulations.
- Support internal and external audits by supplying necessary documentation and ensuring proper record management.
Skills and Qualifications
- Basic familiarity with Ghana Customs procedures and systems such as GCNet and ICUMS.
- Understanding of import/export documentation and clearance workflows.
- Knowledge of Incoterms, tariffs, duties, and shipping practices is beneficial.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Strong organizational and time management aptitude.
- High attention to detail and precision in handling paperwork.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrates integrity and a keen willingness to learn continuously.
- Commitment to safety with a proactive approach towards maintaining safe operations.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related discipline.
- At least three to four years of relevant experience following national service.
- Possession of a valid Ghanaian driver’s license is an added advantage.
