Role Overview
Join the Cannington canteen team as a vital contributor to the daily food service operations. Your duties will encompass preparing diverse food items, cooking breakfasts and lunches, assembling sandwiches and grab-and-go selections, all while maintaining impeccable hygiene and providing welcoming and effective customer care.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere consistently to health and safety protocols, ensuring all equipment is properly used and maintained.
- Foster a positive safety culture by identifying and challenging unsafe behaviors.
- Prepare food items to meet stringent quality and recipe standards with strict attention to hygiene practices including HACCP compliance and allergen controls.
- Produce sandwiches, salads, and buffet offerings timely, accurately, and attractively, escalating any concerns related to quality or safety immediately.
- Complete all necessary documentation clearly and thoroughly.
- Deliver friendly and efficient front-of-house service, operate the till for card transactions, and handle customer inquiries or complaints professionally.
- Assist in menu planning and clearly communicate daily food options.
- Cook and serve breakfasts and lunches following agreed standards.
- Prepare sandwiches, wraps, salads, and packed meals for internal consumption, ensuring proper portioning and stock management to minimize waste.
- Keep the working environment clean and organized, ensure proper stock rotation, labeling, and storage, and perform deep cleaning when required.
- Collaborate with colleagues to achieve daily objectives, aid in training new team members, participate in team meetings, and promote a positive workplace culture.
- Optimize resources to reduce waste and enhance efficiency while supporting accurate stock control operations.
Additional Information
The position requires working 42 hours per week on a 4-on 4-off shift schedule between 06:00 and 18:00.

- Meticulous attention to detail and dedication to maintaining high quality standards.
- Knowledge of health and food safety regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in cooking and food preparation, preferably within a canteen, school, café, or restaurant setting.
- Confidence in preparing sandwiches to meet production deadlines.
- Willingness to work flexible hours.
- Possession of a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) is an advantage.
