About Environment Canterbury

Environment Canterbury is a regional council responsible for looking after natural resources such as air, soil, water, and land. In partnership with mana whenua Ngāi Tahu, the organisation works to protect environmental health and support a sustainable, thriving future for the region.

The council operates in a changing environmental and political landscape, so flexibility and responsiveness are central to its work. Its activity is organised around three main service areas: environmental regulation and protection, community preparedness and response to hazards, and public transport. It also responds to national legislation and policy shifts while continuing to deliver services for communities, partners, and the environment.

About the Role

As Business Support Coordinator in the Digital team, you will provide administration, secretarial, and customer service support to the General Manager Digital and the wider team. The role is designed to deliver a well-organised support function, maintain a smooth experience for internal and external customers, and help the team work efficiently.

You will work with stakeholders across the organisation, handle information and systems carefully and accurately, and contribute to improvements that strengthen service delivery and business continuity.

  • Maintain business information, records, and related systems.
  • Handle customer enquiries and help coordinate their resolution.
  • Support process improvement and business continuity work.
  • Collaborate with different teams to achieve strong service outcomes.

About You

The ideal candidate is comfortable with technology, confident using digital systems, and genuinely interested in IT and related tools. You should be an experienced administrator who performs well in a busy setting, delivers excellent customer service, and builds effective working relationships.

You will need to manage competing priorities, work accurately and professionally, and feel equally at ease working alone or within a team. A proactive attitude toward improving processes and supporting others is important.

Requirements

  • Background in administration, coordination, or business support.
  • Experience managing diaries.
  • Strong customer service and relationship management capability.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to stay calm, professional, and discreet when working with sensitive information.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • NCEA Level 3.
