Job Overview

The Business Intelligence Senior Specialist role is responsible for gathering, cleansing, and interpreting datasets to address business challenges. This role transforms raw data into meaningful insights by generating data visualizations and reports that empower informed decision-making across the organization. The primary focus is on Power BI, while also requiring adaptability to other reporting platforms such as Metabase, Apache Superset, or similar tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize dashboards, reports, and semantic data models primarily within Power BI and Looker environments.
• Create consistent and high-quality reports across multiple platforms, including Metabase and Apache Superset.
• Maintain semantic models using LookML to ensure scalability, accuracy, and performance.
• Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and reporting purposes.
• Integrate semantic layers such as dbt and cube.dev into workflows to standardize definitions and improve data accessibility.
• Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Document reporting workflows, data sources, and key calculations to uphold transparency and best practices.
• Monitor and enhance report performance for optimal data visualization and user experience.
• Provide training and support to end-users to foster data literacy and maximize the benefits of reporting tools.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including DAX and Power Query.
• Experience with Looker, including dashboard creation and semantic model development with LookML.
• Expert-level SQL skills capable of handling complex queries.
• Familiarity with semantic layers like dbt and cube.dev for consistent data interpretation.
• Strong analytical skills focused on business data interpretation and providing actionable recommendations.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to document processes and maintain reporting standards.
