About St. Joseph's Foundation

St. Joseph's Foundation is a voluntary organisation founded in 1968 that delivers extensive services for individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families. Operating in North Cork and South West Limerick, the Foundation offers day services, residential care, respite care, and home support across multiple locations including Charleville, Dromina, Newtownshandrum, Buttevant, Newmarket, Mitchelstown, Mallow, Ballylanders, Ballyagran, Bruree, Bruff, Croom, Dromcollogher, Granagh, Kilmallock, and Liskennett. The Foundation is also a principal agency in Cork Kerry Community Healthcare for the North West and North East Cork Children's Disability Network Teams serving children aged 0-18 under the National Progressing Disability Services Programme.

Position Summary

The Bus Escort role is based on the route from Mitchelstown to Kilmallock, with possible collection points in Bruff, Kildorrery, or Mitchelstown. The main objective is to ensure the safety and welfare of service users during travel by bus, providing care aligned with each individual's care plan, and supporting agreed goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee the well-being of service users while in care transport.
• Ensure service users are safely handed over to a responsible person at drop-off locations.
• Supervise and support service users throughout the bus journey.
• Maintain positive working relations with the bus driver.
• Serve as a communication link between unit supervisors, nurses, carers, and families as required, including message and letter conveyance.
• Remain familiar with individual disabilities, relevant care plans, and updates provided by line managers.
• Follow all assigned duties relevant to the escort role as delegated by supervisors.
• Remain on the bus during transit except in exceptional situations.
• Report any concerns or incidents to the line manager promptly.
• Promote dignified awareness of learning disabilities within the community.
• Participate in training courses as directed by the Foundation.

Health & Safety

• Understand and comply with the Foundation's and legal safety obligations including the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act.
• Implement fire and safety measures and maintain awareness of emergency protocols.
• Safeguard any equipment used for job duties.
• Report and record all accidents and incidents accurately.

Additional Information

• Job hours approximately 7:45 AM to 10:30 AM and 1:40 PM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
• Immediate start date available.

Candidate Profile

• Experience working with individuals who have intellectual disabilities is essential.
• Training in Epilepsy Awareness and administration of Buccal Midazolam is preferred.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Must demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a flexible approach to work.
