Biomedical Scientist

Overview

We are seeking a qualified Biomedical Scientist registered with HCPC, experienced in Histology, to join the Scarborough, York and Hull Pathology Service (SHYPS) at the Hull Cellular Pathology department. The role involves performing a broad spectrum of laboratory scientific procedures and analyzing biological samples to aid diagnosis, treatment, and disease monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

The role requires participation in a consultant-led team, organizing workflow, supervising support staff including Associate Practitioners, and adhering rigorously to Standard Operating Procedures. Candidates will apply professional judgment impacting the quality of test outcomes, contribute to forward planning with senior staff, and ensure timely and precise reporting within resource limitations.

Professional Standards and Experience

The successful applicant must maintain professional standards consistent with HCPC registration. Familiarity with quality standards like ISO 15189 is beneficial. Proficiency in histological methods is mandatory, along with supervising and training Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners, and Medical Laboratory Assistants in the Histology lab.

Additional Requirements

Applicants should be computer literate, respect patient confidentiality, possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and effectively prioritize their workload. Flexibility in day-to-day duties is expected.
