Role overview
This position is responsible for preparing baked items in line with recipes, production plans, and service standards. The baker supports daily food production while maintaining quality, safety, sanitation, and presentation expectations.
Key duties
- Prepare breads, pies, cakes, cookies, and other pastry items based on production and catering requirements, while helping plan output to meet daily demand.
- Use approved recipes and follow established production methods and equipment standards to ensure consistent food preparation.
- Keep production documentation current, including waste, used and unused quantities, and shortages, and alert the supervisor when stock levels run low.
- Maintain correct presentation, food quality, portion sizes, and serving temperatures for all baked goods.
- Keep all equipment, supplies, utensils, and the work area clean, organized, and sanitary.
- Handle food safely and in accordance with all required safety rules during preparation and service.
- Clean work surfaces, equipment, and display units thoroughly before moving on to other tasks, and ensure displays remain free of debris.
- Work efficiently during busy production and service periods while staying calm, accurate, and productive.
- Confirm that all food is displayed, served, and presented according to company standards.
- Follow sanitation and safety practices for both food handling and equipment use, including corporate and OSHA safety requirements.
Qualifications
- A professional baking certificate from a recognized institution, or a comparable mix of education and baking experience, is considered an advantage.
- Dependable and able to work variable schedules.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Comfortable following policies and procedures consistently.
- Able to take initiative and work with limited supervision.
- Effective team player in a busy, fast-moving environment.
- Physically capable of performing the duties associated with the role.
