Role Overview
We are looking for a seasoned AV Commissioning Engineer to oversee the testing, configuration, and handover of audio-visual and IPTV installations within corporate offices, hospitality venues, and showrooms. You will be tasked with ensuring that all systems meet functional requirements, are finely tuned, and delivered with high quality to the client.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission fully integrated AV systems including audio, video, control systems, and IPTV networks according to project specs and industry standards.
- Execute hands-on digital signal processing (DSP) commissioning for platforms such as Biamp Tesira, QSC Q-SYS, and BSS, focusing on gain structure, echo cancellation, and room acoustic tuning.
- Manage loading, debugging, and editing of control system code and touch panel logic for systems like Crestron, Extron, and AMX.
- Set up and troubleshoot video distribution systems including AV-over-IP technologies (Dante AV, NDI, SDVoE), HDBaseT, matrix switchers, and handle EDID/HDCP issues.
- Configure IPTV solutions (including but not limited to Exterity, Tripleplay, and VITEC) covering headend setup, channel management, multicast streaming, middleware integration, and deployment of endpoints.
- Implement audio networking using Dante and manage converged AV networks focusing on VLAN, Quality of Service (QoS), and multicast protocols like IGMP.
- Calibrate displays and align complex videowall installations to ensure optimal visual performance.
- Deploy and commission unified communications platforms such as Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms.
- Adhere to a systematic commissioning workflow including pre-staging, point-to-point testing, compiling snag lists, and conducting witness testing alongside consultants.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and document all findings thoroughly.
- Generate comprehensive test reports, as-built documentation, and operation & maintenance manuals to finalize project handovers.
- Review AV schematics and rack layouts during site work.
- Liaise with IT professionals to manage IP addressing, firewall settings, and multicast routing, and collaborate with MEP trades as necessary.
- Troubleshoot technical challenges encountered during commissioning and post-installation phases.
- Lead user acceptance testing (UAT) sessions involving clients, conduct system demonstrations, and provide training to end users.
- Offer technical support throughout events, initial go-live periods, and during warranty timeframes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven track record commissioning AV systems in corporate, hospitality, or showroom settings.
- Practical expertise with DSP systems such as Biamp Tesira, QSC Q-SYS, and BSS.
- Experience with control systems like Crestron, Extron, or AMX including the ability to load, debug, and adjust code and panel logic.
- Strong understanding of AV-over-IP, HDBaseT distribution, and signal routing complexities.
- Hands-on knowledge of IPTV platform commissioning, including headend, streaming infrastructure, and endpoint configuration.
- Certification in Dante (Level 2 minimum) and AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS).
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and strong client interaction skills.
Preferred Credentials
- CTS-I certification, considered an industry standard for commissioning engineers.
- Manufacturers’ certifications such as Crestron Certified Programmer and Q-SYS Levels 1 and 2.
- Certification or direct experience with IPTV vendors like Exterity, Tripleplay, or VITEC.
- Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms certifications with practical deployment experience.
- Background in converged AV/IT networking and integration with IT infrastructures.
- Knowledge in broadcast media, streaming services, and digital signage technologies is advantageous.
Working Conditions
- This position requires on-site presence and may involve working during evenings and weekends to meet commissioning deadlines, support events, or during critical go-live junctures.
- Physical capability to handle and transport AV equipment as required.
