Job description
Position Overview
Western National Parks (WNP), a nonprofit collaborating with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking a full-time Assistant Park Store Manager to support daily retail operations at White Sands National Park in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The park store enhances visitors' experiences, with proceeds aiding education, research, and community projects across 71 national park units in 12 western states.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing daily retail store operations ensuring smooth functioning.
- Deliver superior visitor and customer service to enhance park experience.
- Oversee store inventory, facilities, and assets to maintain operational efficiency.
- Maintain appealing and effective product merchandising within the store.
- Assist in training, leading, and retaining staff members.
- Drive and monitor initiatives aimed at meeting financial targets.
- Perform physical inventory cycles and annual counts ensuring accuracy.
- Analyze profit and loss statements and budgets to make strategic recommendations.
- Collaborate with NPS and WNP headquarters to develop educational retail merchandise that engages visitors.
- Produce daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports for performance monitoring.
- Supervise volunteer personnel and WNP staff members effectively.
- Represent WNP and NPS positively, ensuring visitors have memorable experiences.
Physical Requirements and Travel
Specific physical demands details are available upon request from Human Resources. Occasional local travel to events or speaking engagements, including overnight stays, may be required. Use of personal or company vehicles may be necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or GED is mandatory.
- Experience with retail operations and POS systems is preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience is an advantage.
- Possession of a valid REAL ID driver’s license.
- Proficiency with computer applications including internet navigation, databases, and Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Familiarity with office equipment like printers, calculators, multiline phones, filing cabinets, photocopiers, and dollies.
- Strong skills in planning, organizing, analyzing, problem solving, multitasking, and communication.
- Understanding of applicable federal and state regulations as well as professional business practices.
- Ability to clear the NPS background check and obtain necessary security clearance.
Compensation and Benefits
Hourly pay for this role ranges from $22.25 to $27.05. Full-time employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package including choice among three premium subsidized PPO Medical plans with HSA or HRA options, PPO Dental, Vision coverage, Flexible Medical and Dependent Care Savings Plans, voluntary term life insurance, and a 403(b) retirement plan with fully vested matching contributions up to 8.33% after six months of service. Additionally, company-paid benefits include short- and long-term disability insurance, a $50,000 employee group life policy, an employee assistance program, and health and wellness resources.
