Assembly Fitter

Role Overview

The Assembly Fitter will be responsible for constructing structural steel components, including platforms, handrails, and access systems, while adhering to engineering drawings and safety protocols. This role requires hands-on mechanical assembly work using both hand and power tools, as well as close cooperation with fabrication, welding, and quality teams to meet deadlines.

Main Responsibilities

• Build and assemble structural steel parts such as platforms, handrails, and related steel frameworks.
• Install steel grating securely onto platforms and supporting structures.
• Perform mechanical assembly and bolting precisely following engineering specifications.
• Interpret and work from engineering blueprints accurately.
• Conduct work safely at heights following company safety procedures.
• Use hand and power tools effectively and safely during assembly operations.
• Inspect finished assemblies to ensure they comply with quality and project requirements.
• Coordinate with fabrication, welding, and quality assurance teams to maintain production schedules.
• Undertake any additional responsibilities relevant to the assembly fitter role.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of three years’ experience in an assembly or structural steel fitting role.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Strong mechanical skills paired with sharp attention to detail.
• Experience operating hand and power tools.
• Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Dedicated to maintaining high standards in health, safety, and quality.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Prior experience with structural steel fabrication.
• Certification or willingness to train for Working at Heights.
• Confined space training is an advantage.
• Possession of Teleporter ticket and related experience.
• MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) certification and experience.
• Safe Pass certification.
