AI / API Engineer - Agentic AI Solutions Manager

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced AI / API Engineer Manager to lead the development of advanced Agentic AI solutions within Payroll operations. This managerial position, located in Mumbai or Bangalore, focuses on building next-generation AI capabilities by combining deep business insight with engineering proficiency to automate and scale processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop AI-powered workflows utilizing large language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI and Azure OpenAI.
• Build multi-step agentic AI solutions that incorporate reasoning, external tools, and data sources.
• Ensure AI solutions are reliable, accurate, and scalable.
• Integrate AI functionalities with enterprise systems through API development and management.
• Implement REST API integrations, including authentication mechanisms like OAuth and token management.
• Handle structured and unstructured data across various sources effectively.
• Collaborate closely with payroll subject matter experts to translate complex business challenges into scalable AI and API solutions.
• Deliver fully production-ready AI solutions rather than mere prototypes.
• Lead and mentor AI engineering teams and assist in upskilling payroll professionals transitioning into AI roles.
• Establish engineering best practices, including writing clean, maintainable code and implementing robust error handling and debugging processes.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• 10 to 13 years of professional experience in software engineering or related fields.
• Proven experience in building tangible, real-world AI and API solutions.
• Strong proficiency in Python programming with hands-on expertise in APIs, particularly REST APIs including authentication methods such as OAuth and token handling.
• Experience working with LLM-based AI models and prompt engineering.
• Excellent problem-solving, system design, and debugging capabilities for complex, multi-component systems.
• Effective communication skills combined with analytical thinking, adaptability, and strong stakeholder management.
• Leadership abilities with a willingness to mentor and enable team members.

Desirable Skills

• Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks like LangChain or Semantic Kernel.
• Experience in cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques.
• Knowledge of both SQL and NoSQL database systems.
• Basic competence in frontend or UI development for internal tool creation.
• Experience with payroll systems and MS Office applications.
