About the Company and Role
Our client operates as a premier logistics and transportation service provider, managing an extensive fleet of heavy trucks and tankers across East and Central Africa. They are currently searching for a seasoned Workshop Manager to lead and supervise workshop activities, ensure high standards in fleet performance, and boost operational efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all activities relating to workshop operations and fleet maintenance.
- Design and execute programs for both preventive and corrective maintenance to maximize fleet uptime.
- Ensure the highest possible fleet availability while minimizing downtime.
- Track maintenance expenditures and introduce effective cost-saving strategies.
- Supervise procurement and inventory management of spare parts.
- Lead teams comprising mechanics, technicians, electricians, welders, and workshop supervisors.
- Analyze major mechanical breakdowns and implement corrective solutions.
- Ensure adherence to maintenance standards set by vehicle manufacturers.
- Manage workshop budgets and coordinate with external service providers.
- Promote and enforce safety protocols and environmental regulations within the workshop.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Transport Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- At least five years of experience managing workshops, particularly within logistics, transportation, fleet management, or heavy equipment sectors.
- Extensive knowledge of heavy-duty trucks, trailers, tankers, and advanced fleet maintenance techniques.
- Demonstrable experience in leading and managing technical and maintenance personnel.
- Strong skills in planning, budgeting, and controlling inventory.
- Proficiency using maintenance management software and Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience managing large commercial vehicle fleets with over 200 units is essential.
