Role Overview
Parkes Shire Council invites applications for the position of Wastewater Civil Construction Assistant. This role supports the delivery of civil construction and maintenance projects within the council's Infrastructure Services, focusing primarily on wastewater, water, drainage, and related civil works to benefit the local community.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform manual labour tasks involved in constructing, maintaining, and repairing water, sewer, and drainage systems.
- Assist with repairs on water services, conduct maintenance activities, and carry out water meter readings as required.
- Help construct, maintain, and rehabilitate pits, manholes, and wastewater-related infrastructure.
- Engage in concrete labouring and assist with repairs to roads, kerbs, gutters, and drainage structures.
- Operate and maintain small machinery, tools, and equipment safely and effectively.
- Support site preparation, excavation, setting out, and other general civil construction duties as directed.
- Complete assigned tasks in accordance with supervisor instructions and operational guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and maintain accurate records of work performed.
- Participate actively in team efforts fostering a positive work environment.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a valid Driver's Licence.
- Possesses a current SafeWork NSW Construction Induction Card (White Card).
- Preferably has at least one year of relevant experience in a similar role or industry.
- Possession of Civil Construction certificate or trade qualifications is advantageous.
- Plant operation machinery tickets and proficiency with basic literacy, numeracy, and electronic devices are beneficial.
Employment Terms & Benefits
The position is classified as Grade 2 under Parkes Shire Council's salary framework, with a starting annual salary around $55,693 ($28.18 to $32.41 per hour), adjusted according to skills and experience. Benefits include garbage/sewer allowance ($1.38 per hour), a 38-hour workweek with a fortnightly rostered day off, four weeks of annual leave plus one week of additional leave, eligibility for long service leave after five years, and access to salary packaging options.
