Position Overview
We are recruiting a full-time Truck Driver to be based in Welshpool, Western Australia, with an annual salary of $80,000 plus superannuation.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate manual and automatic Heavy Rigid trucks safely.
- Deliver freight punctually according to planned routes.
- Follow company procedures, road transport laws, and safe driving practices.
- Transport general, palletised, and air cargo freight across metropolitan, regional, and interstate locations.
- Perform vehicle inspections before and after trips.
- Report mechanical issues affecting vehicle safety.
- Communicate unusual traffic conditions, road hazards, delays, or delivery difficulties.
- Load and unload freight as needed.
- Inspect and rearrange loads to ensure safe transport.
- Secure freight using proper load-restraint methods like chains and chain binders.
- Handle dangerous goods when properly trained, licensed, and authorized.
- Review delivery and shipping documents to verify load needs and transport conditions.
- Complete accurate freight, delivery, and transport documentation.
- Maintain records of deliveries, driving hours, mileage, pallets, and vehicle issues.
- Use GPS-based fleet management or telematics systems for route efficiency and compliance.
- Adhere to fatigue management rules, including keeping accurate work diaries during long-distance drives.
- Comply with Chain of Responsibility obligations and transport regulations.
- Provide professional customer service at pickup and delivery sites.
- Maintain and properly use vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Work independently while keeping clear communication with the transport team.
- Operate forklift if appropriately licensed and required.
- Engage in ongoing training and professional development.
- Perform other reasonable transport-related tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Current Australian HR Driver Licence; manual truck driving experience preferred.
- Minimum 12 months experience in driving Heavy Rigid manual trucks within Australia.
- At least 12 months driving experience in commercial roles in regional or rural areas.
- At least 12 months driving experience on local Western Australian and interstate routes including Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, and New South Wales.
- Minimum 12 months expertise in load restraint techniques, dangerous goods handling, and freight documentation compliant with the National Load Restraint Guide across multiple freight types.
- At least 12 months using GPS-based fleet management or telematics systems for route optimisation and compliance monitoring.
- Minimum 12 months adherence to fatigue management requirements, including maintaining accurate work logs during long-distance trips.
- At least 12 months conducting vehicle inspections, identifying mechanical issues, and organising maintenance within operational transport settings.
- Possess current certificates: Fatigue Management, Chain of Responsibility, Air Cargo Security Awareness Training, and First Aid.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Successful completion of pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening.
- Provide at least two professional references.
