Overview

This varied and engaging role involves performing plant operation and laboring duties, focusing mainly on tractor slasher operations, within a multidisciplinary team committed to maintaining and constructing infrastructure assets following recognized standards.

Location

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain medium complexity machinery including tractors and equipment efficiently, adhering to relevant award standards.
• Carry out laboring tasks safely, competently, and promptly to meet quality work program requirements.
• Respond tactfully and professionally to additional tasks that may arise, including addressing councillor requests or managing reputation risks related to maintenance and construction works.
• Advocate for technological enhancements supporting a mobile workforce and assist in developing work procedures.
• Collaborate autonomously and effectively within team settings and across council departments.
• Contribute to fostering a safe, healthy work environment by participating in safety initiatives and adhering to workplace safety protocols.
• Seek continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance work practices.
• Perform other related duties as needed within the role's scope.

Required Licenses and Certifications

• Competency in tractor operations (RIIMO0315A) or willingness to obtain it.
• Current Queensland MR class driver’s licence or higher.
• Valid Construction Industry White/Blue Card.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

• Experience in road construction and maintenance including earthworks, pavement, drainage, stormwater, and concreting.
• Certificate III in Civil Construction, Plant Operations, or related field.
• Competency in implementing Traffic Plans (RIIWHS302D Level 2).

Essential Skills and Experience

• Proven ability to operate medium rigid tractors and slashers in varied terrain conditions.
• Physical agility and strength to perform labor-intensive tasks involving frequent heavy lifting and bending.
• Capacity to foster harmonious teamwork and maintain positive relationships with council colleagues and the public.
• Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
