Role overview
Transport for NSW is seeking a Surveillance Officer to support bridge and maritime maintenance as well as construction projects in the NSW North Coast region. This ongoing full-time position is focused on making sure works are delivered safely, on schedule, within scope, and to the expected quality standard.
The role is based at Grafton, with Ballina considered for an outstanding candidate. It is an on-site, in-person position.
What you will do
- Carry out regular site surveillance to confirm work is being completed in line with specifications, standards, and required procedures.
- Monitor delivery partner performance, follow progress against milestones and deliverables, and help drive successful project outcomes.
- Support the preparation, review, and assessment of project and contract documents to strengthen delivery and contract administration.
- Keep clear, accurate, and timely records of surveillance work so activities remain compliant, auditable, and traceable.
- Act as the Agency’s on-site representative, use delegated authority, provide technical guidance, and escalate issues when needed.
- Plan and coordinate surveillance programs, identify non-conformances, complete site assessments and re-assessments, and work toward practical solutions that satisfy operational, public, and stakeholder needs.
About you
You bring hands-on experience in civil construction and maintenance, along with a good working knowledge of industry methods, standards, policies, codes, and compliance requirements. Experience in bridge maintenance and familiarity with bridge specifications will be an advantage.
You can read and interpret project, construction, and contract documents, maintain strong documentation practices, and understand contract obligations in a construction or maintenance setting.
You communicate well, build relationships effectively, and handle negotiation and conflict resolution with contractors, stakeholders, and project teams.
You stay organised when juggling competing priorities, work to deadlines, and deliver in fast-moving contractor surveillance, asset maintenance, construction, or infrastructure environments.
You are comfortable using digital tools and mobile technology such as iPads, electronic reporting systems, and other computer-based applications for project delivery and reporting.
You must hold an unrestricted current NSW Motor Vehicle driver’s licence.
You should also be willing to work outside normal hours occasionally and travel across the NSW North Coast region, including staying away from home at times.
