Role Purpose

Tusla’s policy emphasizes enabling children and young people to reside with their own families whenever possible, supporting parents in fulfilling their roles effectively. The Social Care Worker will offer nurturing, safeguarding, and assistance to vulnerable individuals, either alone or in groups, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and allied agencies. Their primary focus is to address issues faced by children/young people that hinder them from living at home or within foster or relative care settings. The role includes vigilant care for those under their responsibility and representing their interests when necessary.

Role Context

Social Care Workers in residential environments function as integral members of multidisciplinary teams providing holistic care. Many children/young people placed in residential care come from backgrounds involving family disruption, neglect, abuse, addiction, or mental health challenges. The residential service offers therapeutic care tailored to individuals with complex emotional or behavioural issues preventing them from living in family environments.
